Shooting at granpa house (1)

Today we had this shooting at my grandpa's house. Previously I've a post that show roughly the look and feel of this room. 

I didn't change much of it..just that I've sticked some newspapers and cardboard to cover the windows...So the room looks darker and from inside, it looks like something blocked the window to stop the person inside from escaping. 

Here're some pictures of the protagonist. 

 

Here're some of the videos that I've shot and think they're pretty good ones. I will record the sound again after tis shooting and add into the final video..

This is because I don't have enough helper for me to hold mic or light..

So everything have to do by myself and work harder in the post production.

( OPTIONS / RESESARCH ) Interface of flash play

So, I would need some simple interface design for my flash payer since it's an interactive video ...

It's either few words or some simple icon.

Since I want it simple...I would probably make it like "minimalist" style.

I think overlaying certain colors and low apacity icon is a great idea..

looks modern, simple and suits the concept of "minimalist".

This is like overlaying words and shape as a frame

I think it's nice..but I more prefer the previous one

So this is just like the traditional's button.

Nothing special.

Just simple.

Normal button.

This two layouts is all about typeface.

Play with the typography without shapes and images.

Simple enough.

- Below is research on ICONS -

Was thinking instead of only words, adding certain specific icons on the video player is also a good idea.

Because most of the time, certain graphics/icons is much more easier and faster for understanding.

So I've got some of the research on icons which are more to minimalist/simple. 

Without complicated strokes or colors..

just small icon.

4th day of shooting

This is the last day of shooting in this corridor..

and gonna move to other corridor after tis week. 

Luckily the rain and wind doesn't destroy my set up,

or else I gonna kill myself .. haha!

So today we only hv 2 person.

my actress and me. 

Everything finish earlier.

The footages should be fine. 

Anyway, we spent too much time on set up..

even if there's anything with the video if it's not major problem,

I don't think I'll reshoot again.

No choice. 

Need to finish other first.

3rd day shooting

2nd day shooting

Today is a full day shoot, but even 7 hours is not enough for us to finish this corridor's scenes.

One of our crew suggested me to stick the whole corridor with newspaper instead of black cloth..so we started to work on this in the early of morning. Then, we have spent most of our time on set up again.
Hanging newspaper to block the sunlight.

Create a more darker environment and ambience.

This is the look and feel of the envrionment, besides newspaper there's also piece of black cloth hanging outside..so that the corridor would be covered nicely. 

But my crew and I spent around 3 to 4 hrs on set up..therefore we still have lack of time for shooting. 

No choice but to continue my shooting on the next day.

The only one thing that I worry is the wether, it's so lucky that there's no rain in this two days.. 

Hopefully there is no rain on monday too. 

1st day shooting at primary school

Today it was too lucky that I've another friend that willing to help me on set up ..

So altogether there're 3 persons here to set up including me.

We used black cloth to cover the side way..

and the end side, we used a thinner black cloth to cover,

and add on a layer of newspaper.

Here's some pictures that shows how they hang those things up.

It's actually quite difficult and tiring to set this thing up, 

especially when we have the problem of "lack of manpower".

We start shooting around 9.30am, and ends at 3pm.. ( actress available time )

Unfortunately we spent more than half of the time to set up and left around 2 hrs++ for shooting only.

So we didn't complete shots in this corridor.

So no choice, I've to continue this shooting tomorrow.

shooting day again at "primary school, SKTBM"

LED light

This is a LED light that I've bought for this video shooting..

It's small enough for my crew to carry around.

But sometime the light is too bright, too strong.. 

and it spreads too much, not focus at all.

So I planning to use tracing paper to cover it..so that the edge of the light looks more softer..
and the brightness will decrease..

Unfortuntealy, I guess two layers of tracing paper is not really enough.

Maybe I should add more layers or use another material to cover the light.

So, this is the light without filter.

Whereas, this is the light with the covered of two layers tracing paper. 

It's still too bright.

2nd place for my shooting

This is the second place that I would like to have my shooting at..

It's my grandpa's house and I use one of the room to act like 

"the place where the main character being locked"

It's a nice setting and am going to cover the windows with newspaper from outside

so that it cover the light. 

but..

the problem is,

how am i gonna have lighting in the room itself. 

There's one fluorescent light. but i don think it's enough.

So, what can I do? 

Consultation with "zui" and "joan"

I've actually planned all my schedule well 

I've got all my actors and set those dates for shooting..
also finish shots in one of the location..

Unfortunately, after consultation with ZUI ...
found out that the real video shooting is wasn't like what I've expected. 
I need more equipments and more planning on shots.

He told me that I definitely need lighting.
The video or movie I usually seen is dark but during the real shooting they have lots of lights. If without light, the ISO will boost up and creates lot of noise. It's IMPOSSIBLE to shoot without lighting.

Besides..he said it's hard for me to cover all the light.. there will still have some light leaks in..
So, he suggested me to have more close up shots..
and those close up shots maybe can take in other place such as "THE ONE" ...
then long shots will be at school..but not that much.. Some more, for some of the long shot actors doesn't really have to be at the place. 
Therefore, this also solve the problem of "actors' time not matching".

In addition, Zui commented that my audio has too many noise, not clear enough.
He said not all the time can use boom mic. 
I should let the actor use CLIP ON MIC during the shooting
and use boom mic for the surrounding sound or sound effect such as door slam, footsteps...

So overall..conclusion,
I've to reshoot,
and replan the setting and audio. 

*HEADACHE*

measuring places

Here's a measurement that I've did in the school componud. 

I was planning to block the light with some black clothes, newspaper and cardboard.

This place I would make the character hide beside the cupboard when the bad character looking for her.

Here's when we give options to the user whether the character should go down the staircase or straight

and after that they should turn left or right..

It's the corridor that I love so much..but it's hard to cover all of them with black clothes or newspaper..

I found this small room which they usually place pail stuffs in it.

A nice place for the main character to hide inside while the evil one passby outside..

technical

first shooting on sunday, 10.11.2013

Finally started my shooting after two months preparation. 

haha! But i guess it's around 1 month preparation as I rest a lot during the first month break :)

Anyway, after the abandoned building being rejected by sweii, I took my saturday off and start shooting at Vanessa's house (one of my actress). 

Initially I planned to finish both tarc and house scene within a day..but it's not as easy as what I thought.

Just few second scene took us more than 30 mins to finish.

Therefore, ended up we only finish one small part by today and gonna shoot at TARC on the other day.

This is our first scene which shows how both of the roommates meet with each other.

Although I've planned the dialogue but while this shooting is carry on..

I have to modify the dialogue so that the actress feel comfortable and smooth..

So we keep changing and changing.

I tried with different angle on the spot and I guess it's one of the reason why my shoting took so long time.

There's this scene which Vanessa invited the girls to party..So when she opened the door, 

she needs to show an excited facial expression

and yeah, she did well in terms of expression..

but sometime the angle wrong or even she said the wrong things, 

so she has to repeat and repeat saying the same words, doing the same action

and slowly..she gets tired and it's harder to get a nice shot from her.

Ended up, we finished around 5pm++ ...because it's indoor..the sunlight is getting lesser..

so we've to finish everything before 6pm.

And now, it's done for the hostel scene.
