(b) Week 3 (Lesson2) - Idea 1 ( Do not judge a person by it's look )

Message :
Don't judge.
Unless you've been in her shoe you won't know her story.

Purpose :
It's like a campaigne to deliver a message. More to design & artistic.

Product :
Create a parallax scrolling website and an installation space with photos hang all over the place.

Symbolism :
Shoe - Cover
Photo of shoe hang all around the place - The audience are attract by their cover.

5 similar things to what you are thinking about - both direct and indirect associations, name them, show their covers, or an image from them, you are saying 'it will be like this...' :

Pictures of shoes for the user to choose.

long shot on those photos.

4 sources of inspiration (music, poetry, film, game, novel) that are in play when you think about this idea :

   feet hurt

2 'theories' that are of relevance :
Walk a mile in my shoes
Link above is a post about a book written by an author who have been given a "schizophrenia" label on her for quite sometime. Title of this post name "Don't judge me until you've walked a mile in my shoe". It's all about hows her life living with those background sounds talking to her all the time.
People around tends to judge them just because they seems little bit different from us but this is not what we're suppose to do until you've really try to go through what they had. So, it's similar to my idea which you're not suppose to judge a person unless you've been in her shoe.

1 'issue' you are aware of that will be involved in the making.... (skills, knowledge, resources...) :
1. The toughest/most difficult part will be data collect. I've to collect  or look for stories about the shoes and maybe have to take picture of more than 100 pairs of shoes. At the same time, I need to have the same amout of stories and some of it might need few second videos.

2. Do most of the user/audience interested in knowing more about the shoes? Especially guys.

3. Message might only be show after the overall interaction finished but then it is easy for the user to understand my purpose throughout this whole process?

4. Will the user interested to go through all the photos hang around the space? Or it's just gonna make them feel annoying or bored? Will it raise their curiosity and continue to explore more?

5. Is it only parallax scrolling website the only way to execute this idea?

Do not judge a person by it's look

Images/messages found for this message

    do not judge a person
So here's a message telling others not to judge a person by their look. It's not gonna define who they are but it's gonna show others who you are. Thi

Through the picture above, we can see the person themselves with their words. With this way we can actually find out there are some people with fierce look but they're actually good. For example, the 3rd person in the middle row is saying he will not cut the grass.
Maybe should I have an opening or ending video in the installation with all this images gather together?

I think mirror is a great prop to use in this topic. We can definitely use mirror in this idea. When a person look into the mirror they'll see other stuffs instead of themselves. This is because mirror usually reflects the original object. So it's make sense if the mirror reflects their personality.

     dont just a person
It's another photograph here clearly deliver the message of "do not judge a person by it's look". People usually see what they will/can "see". Wondering how many people really know the truth/story behind of it.

     stop judging people
Through the illustration above, I can say that every people have their own story and we're not suppose to judge them by their look.
Between, holding a paper with their story or message written on it to show the audience is one of the way to execute this idea.

     stop judging people

I think picture above is quite a nice example or reference which they did not contain any words, phrase or message but they successfully delivered the message. Clothes on the old man is somehow a cover of him to hide his real personality or his story.

I'm thinking instead of scanning and appear lots of artistic picture. Should I just make an installation which is full of shoes/mirrors which can actually deliver the same message too.

"Do not judge a person by it's look, unless you've been in her shoes you won't know her story. "

- You have to try out the shoe only you'll get to know what's the size of that shoe.
- You're not suppose to judge the shoe by it's outlook.
- It may be a nice or beautiful shoe but might not fit your feet.
- Digitally try the shoe? Game? Or physically shoes' installations.

Unless you've been in her SHOES you won't know her story
1.  Sometimes there're lots of girls looks awesome with their high heels but we won't know that their toes might be quite painful or they might have plaster on their feets

2.  There might be girls with super ugly or normal slipper walking in a mall but no one knows they might hurt their feet previously so they've no choice but just to wear an ugly slipper.

3. Especially to girls who would just wear a shoes that doesn't fit their feet eventhough it's painful just because the shoe looks beautiful.

Shoe represents each of our cover.
Feet represesnts our feeling / story.

"Unless you've been in her SHOES"
- You didn't even go through what she/he has gone through
- You didn't  even try to understand how's her/his feeling

IDEA OPTION
- An installation full of shoes' photo/ shoes hang around the space with codes.
- Each of the shoes have their own stories/personality/feeling?
- A website/parallax scrolling website
- landing page with all the shoes' photos with their codes
- When user enter the installation space, they are give pencil and paper to jot down the codes of the shoes they're interested and like.
- It's like online purchasing, they should continue look for more info about the shoes in our website.
- Then, instead of displaying pictures and price of it,  I'm gonna show picture/condition of the previous owner's feet which represents their experience and story.
- Last page shows our message

*A pair of shoe doesn't seems comfortable even it looks nice.*

week 3 (lesson2) - Idea 2 ( Don't worry, you're not alone )

Basically, there will be a glob shape of photo collage spinning slowly at the middle of the site. User can choose to turn the spinning direction or to enlarge it to view to have a more detail view of those photos. At the same time, music will be playing according to the mood/emotion of that category.

5 similar things to what you are thinking about - both direct and indirect associations, name them, show their covers, or an image from them, you are saying 'it will be like this...'

3D globe

4 sources of inspiration (music, poetry, film, game, novel) that are in play when you think about this idea

1.
Image above is a creative agency map/overall view in galaxy form which I got it from Shahnim. I actually think of this map when I'm developing my concept of "don't worry, you're not alone". We can say that just there're many people having different and similar situations as you're having now in this world just like there're many different and similar kind of planets in the galaxy.

Four images above screen captured by me from intel site. Basically, this website require the user to log into their facebook account and they'll grab all the info/data/photos from it and create somehow a gallery or musuem.
I think it's quite similar to what I wish my website to be. A site full of photos and when you rollover it, description will appear and when you click on it, it will show their story. But the problem is, how to make it more outstanding?

When I first think of this idea, I'm listening to this song and feel so sad and down. Then I realized that songs actually affect a person's emotion/mood/feeling a lot. Sometimes, people prefer to watch/listen/read some stories or anything that kinda fits their mood.
Therefore, from here I start to focus more on "emotions".

2 'theories' that are of relevance

six basic emotion
- Psychologists believe that there are six main emotions which are also called basic emotions. They are happiness, anger, fear, sadness, disgust and surprise.

Emotions
- Researchers on emotions are all agree with the theory that there are two existing emotions which are primary and secondary emotions.
- Emotions are categorized into two parts which are negative human emotions and positive human emotions.

1 'issue' you are aware of that will be involved in the making.... (skills, knowledge, resources...)
1. I'm afraid that this might slightly involve html5 which I can just enlarge certain part of the picture just by a simple click.

2. Besides, the user able to spin the glob to view more photos on the other side.

Use our palm to scan
- might be something do with shodow
- maybe trigger by shadow

4 sources of inspiration (music, poetry, film, game, novel) that are in play when you think about this idea

Image above is an advertising campaigne's poster which initially inspired me of this idea.
Actually I wish to make my installation as an advertising campaigne for the airport company.
It is to promote and make the user clear with the reason that why is it necessary for every single passenger to go through the airport scanner.
At the sametime, this campaigne is going to deliver a message of "do not judge a person by it's look" to the audience.

2.

Besides, airport actually is the first to inspired me of this idea. I think of the reason why every passengers need to go through their scanner and slowly I think of we couldn't really judge a person by their look. People with nice and kind outlook doesn't mean they're good and people with bad image doesn't mead they're bad too.
Here my idea starts from.

3.
      poster
I actually saw this image quite long time ago and I definitely think it's quite true.
There are many people out there might look pretty, cute and kind but they can be the scariest person you've ever met. However we always afraid of some people who looks fierce or evil but they might be the good one. Everyone surely will have their own stories and we should explore or understand them and not to judge the person by their cover.
I wish to come out with an installation or with any medium to deliver this message.

4.
     graphic
I really love this kind of art style which is combine lots of small illustrations into one big drawing that contains story or message. Therefore I began to have an idea that why don't I use this kind of art style to draw out a person's personality after they go through the scanning?
A materialistic person can have lots of branded stuffs such as bag, shoe, clothings and etc in the drawing. Besides, color holds an important role in this kind of drawing. Different colors represent different personality.

3 'heroes' who you associate with the work you are doing

2 'theories' that are of relevance

1 'issue' you are aware of that will be involved in the making.... (skills, knowledge, resources...)
One of the issue that I'm quite worry is the programming part. If I've to really come out with a scanner, eventhough it's a simple one, it involves coding/programming. I admit that I'm not a coding person although I like it so it might affects my progress. Hence, I'm gonna make this installation more to artistic and design instead of programming. If possible, I'll just make a prototype or a fake scanner.

First idea - research

First Idea
Idea : Advertising campaigne by airport
Purpose : To let everyone knows the reason of every passenger is necessary to go through scanning
Message : Do not judge a book by it's cover / Do not judge a person by it's look
Inspired : Airport scanning

Comment by Sweii : I've to focus on 1 purpose instead of 2 so I chose the message.

I tried to search for different way of scanning,
trying to make my installation more simple and easier in terms of programming.

Using mobile phone for scanning is a good idea..it's easier as I don't have to come out with a large installation with big size of machines or camera.

I guess image above is using those traditional way of scanning. Example, x-ray...
Placing a transparent card or any screen in front of the user then it would display out something.

Using thumbprint for scanning is quite normal which consider as traditional way. However, picture above showed is more to digital thumbprint scanning and look more advance.

The user interface above looks more advance and futuristic.

This definitely will be a huge installation..which you need provide the user a place or a mini stage. Then, we need a camera for scanning. At the same time, we need to stop other people from standing around the user so that the scanning process would not be interupted.

How about using this way? Which they just scan the head/top part instead of full body.
Since brain is the main part which control a body's activity so definitely we can get all informations from it.
Maybe we just have to make a small box hanging and ask the user to put their head in it and continue with the scanning.

Using eyeball for scanning is also a great idea and I guess we can actually use smaller size equipment for the installation. Besides, it looks more futuristic as we usually see some futuristic movie they have this eye scanner feature to lock and unlock certain password or any privacy stuffs.

I think this is totally a different way to scan..using footprint.
According to chinese massage theory..our foot basically reflects our body's health condition.
So, I guess it's quite normal for a "footprint" to display our personality, right? =)

I'm quite worry about how the prototype/fake scanner able to display a similar body size of the user after scanning.
I guess maybe we can ask the user to fill in/answer few questions before they scan?
So that we can roughly know their gender, height, body size and etc then only we proceed to the scanning part?

Shadow detection

The two images above is an installation name interactive shadows made with words.
As spectators step into the installation to read the projected content, their blackened silhouette covers the words on the floor and transfers them to the proximate wall.

I think it's an good idea which the user can use their palm's shadow to trigger the scan button. This somehow can be considered as "scan". It's kinda similar to thumbprint but looks more advance and convenient.

So it is gonna be similar to images shown below.

 etips

Conclusion of this post, I decided to use palm scan.
